MESA Works!

Since 1970, the Mathematics, Engineering, Science Achievement Program, or MESA, has been working to increase the number of underpresented, socioeconomic and educationally disadvantaged students that achieve careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics careers. MESA is a nationally recognized program and is currently present in 12 states. California is the largest MESA state and also home to the first ever MESA program, a collaboration between UC Berkeley and Oakland Technical HS back in 1970. Visit the California MESA website to learn more about the history of MESA

In San Diego, MESA has been serving middle and high school students since 1994. Currently we serve 13 middle school and 12 high school programs with approximately 700+ students. The program is under the College of Engineering at San Diego State University and is also part of the San Diego MESA Alliance, a coalition of 5 MESA centers in San Diego. Together with support of local industry anc community partners, San Diego MESA continues to bridge the achievement gap of educationally disadvantaged students and creating leaders for today's and tomorrow's STEM workforce.
